Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) combines “hyper-convergence” with “infrastructure.” A common software-defined system provides the IT environment with all the basic elements of computing, storage, network, and management found in legacy data centers. HCI supplies IT infrastructure “in a box,” with every box forming a basic building block. Multiple boxes are then formed into a cluster and stacked together using distributed software. Clusters are then used to support different application scenarios. If the cluster does not have enough capacity or performance, then new nodes can be added.
